Comments: After nine months at Syracuse in the Intensive Russian program and some technical training in San Angelo, I received orders to go to Turkey. I wanted flight duty, so I was assigned to some additional training and received my order to Yokota Air Base. Spent the best years of my life as a BAT5 in the 6988th. I was born in Portland, Oregon, but now live in Florida because of my best friend that I met at Syracuse. Tom Johntry was from Jacksonville and challenged me to move to Florida. These were the best years of my life. After getting my degree I tried to re-enlist, but the recruiter said I was too old. Since when is 25 too old?!

ENJOYED MY TIME AND WOULD HAVE REUPPTED,BUT NEW FRAU DIDN'T WANT TO LIVE IN ALASKA, WHICH IS WHERE EVERYONE WAS GOING AFTER OFFUTT AND INTERMEDIATE RUSSIAN AT SYRACUES; SO I GOT OUT AND WENT INTO COMPUTER ANALYST/PROGRAMMER AND MADE GOOD MONEY.....WHICH I LEARNED ABOUT WHILE IN THE 6949TH FROM ANOTHER AIRMAN WHOSE WIFE WORKED FOR MA BELL MAKING TWICE(10K) WHAT WE DID AS SGT WITH FLIGHT PAY AND SEPARATE RATS(5K).
OUR REUP BONUS WAS ABOUT 5K. QUITE A FEW MSGTS AMS WITH MASTERS IN RUSSIAN WENT TO OCS AND CAME BACK AS 2ND LTS AND AMS.
I CONSIDER MYSELF FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD SUCH EXCITING, INTERESTING AND FUN DUTY WITH WELL EDUCATED AND DEDECATED MEMBERS.

Comments: Am enjoying my read of "The Price of Vigilance". It hits close to home 'cause I x-ferred from Darmstadt to Rhein Main In July of 1958, so knew most of the guys on 528. I had a very exciting and rewarding career with USAFSS: three tours at Rhein Main, three at Goodbuddy, a year at CRB Viet Nam (the ONLY slot for a MSgt A20371-MA), two years at RAF Mildenhall, and two years at Offutt. I guess I enjoyed the C-130s the most: the great TDY's to Incerlik, Teheran, Athens, Italy and Spain. I'd liken to hear from some of you!

Comments: My father, Richard English, was a USAFSS flyer, and an AMS. That's all I know for sure.
Our family is mounting a plaque at the veteran's memorial, Mt. Soledad CA, in honor to him, and all silent warriors.
If anyone knew/knows him, and would like to make a comment that we would share with him in the presentation, it would be very much appreciated.

Comments: I was at Kaufbeuren, Germany, later moved to Sembach, Germany. Served from 1950-1954, attended Russian Language School at Syracuse, NY, married a beautiful girl from Albany, NY, then overseas. Was S/Sgt, in charge of a trick of analysts in the field at Kaufbeuren, and then moved to Flight A, Sembach. Lovely time. Saw Munich, Paris, Venice. Later was discharged in 1954, Mechanical Engineer at Kodak, designed structures for Lunar Orbiter, authored 26 patents in copier field. Retired in 1991 with spinal cord injury. In wheelchair since. Would appreciate any email from former buddies
Comments: My Dad, Wilson C. Lowery, was in Security Service. We lived in Alaska, were the first dependents on Wakkanai, and San Vito Dei Normandi, Italy. My dad had strokes in Wakkanai, Italy, and then in San Antonio where he was stationed at Medina. He was medically retired in 1969 when I was 14 years old. Please contact me if you knew him.
