Comments: Entered USAF out of high school at age 17, served one AF enlistment 1960-1964. USAF Security Service overseas 6987th RSM, Shu Lin Kou AS, Taiwan, November 1961 - February 1963. 20250. The 6987th was re-designated RGM in 1962. Several week TDY in 1962 to 6927th RSM, Onna Point, Okinawa. Awarded Airman of the Month January 1963. Returned to CONUS to serve out the remainder of my enlistment at HQ USAFSS Kelly AFB TX.
I deeply under-performed in high school. In the Security Service I was introduced to my competence, and I have carried a deep sense of purpose throughout my life. I remain deeply grateful for my time on Taiwan. I remember being good at my work. I served with good men.
I bought Larry Tart's multi-volume history of USAFSS some years ago. One of my sons will get them, and perhaps they my learn a bit about what their dad did back in the day, when we were all immortal.

Comments: Larry, Recently stumbled on to you're name and it rang a bell. I spent about 6 years in USAFSS from 1955-1962 stationed at Chicksands, Peshawar and USAFSS Hqs in San Antonio. I'm thinking that I knew you in Chicksands. After Leaving USAFSS, I retrained into personnel, spending 3 miserable years at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Il. After 3 years of applications to train into Computer Programming,I was succesfull and spent the remainder of my USAF career in programming/analysis at Scott AFB, Illinois and ended my career at the pentagon. I retired in October 1976 as a SMSgt. I married an English gal in 1958 and divorced in 1979. I remarried in 1980 in St Louis, MO and have a great wife too this date. Hope I have't bored you.

Comments: I've read 'about' Larry's book for many years. My daughter and son-in-law gave me a copy for my birthday. Soo many memories came flooding back while reading this. What a fantastic job he did! Being an AMT, not well versed or 'read in' on operational issues, I was astounded at the situations that went on all around my assignments that I was unaware of. I'm still reading and still learning. Love this book!!

Comments: My now-deceased husband, Stephen E. Bunker, served in the 6985th USAFSS, flying out of Eielson AFB in Alaska in the 1960s. It amazed me to know, once this service was declassified and he didn't have to hold it secret, exactly what he did in the Air Force. I honor him, and you, for your service. Fly high and well, Silent Warriors!
